What Makes a Product “kosher”?

Assessments are based upon the most prominent tenants of Jewish culture, the laws of Torah. For example, kosher products:
- May not contain meat or poultry in combination with dairy components.
- May not contain shellfish or byproducts of shellfish.
- May not be cross-contaminated or stored in proximity to non-kosher products.
- Must be processed, handled, and packaged in accordance with standards set forth by the rabbinic field representative (or, mashgiach).
- Kosher meat may not be slaughtered in such a way where the animal suffers.
